The Kalamazoo Humane Society was founded in 1897 and has served the community for over 100 years in the area of animal welfare and protection. KHS is a leader in animal cruelty prevention, pet population control and humane education. As a non-sheltering facility, KHS works with the Kalamazoo County Animal Services & Enforcement Department to address the needs of stray and homeless animals, to eliminate animal suffering and to provide pet adoption counseling to citizens interested in adopting a pet. Our primary programs and services include: • Pet Food Bank - Feeding approx. 500 animals in the Greater Kalamazoo area each day • Safe Shelter - A joint program with the YWCA to safely house pet victims of domestic assault while the owners seek safety • Operation Fix-It - A high volume/low cost spay and neuter clinic open to the public • Dog Houses - We provide shelter and straw for outdoor pets in our communities
