Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) is the leading electric power producer in East Africa, based in Nairobi and founded in 1954 as the Kenya Power Company to develop, manage, and operate power plants. Its capacity totals 1,786 MW across hydro, geothermal, wind, and thermal plants, with hydro accounting for 826 MW, geothermal 754 MW, and wind 26 MW. KenGen supplies about 65% of Kenya's electricity consumption. 

KenGen pursues a strategy to deliver affordable clean energy while expanding its energy sources and revenue streams. As the largest energy producer in East Africa, it serves the Kenyan market and the broader regional energy landscape. In May 2026, the company announced an expansion of its offices across Kenya and Eastern Africa.
