Founded in 1973, Main Street Child Development Center is a 501(c)(3)-registered nonprofit organization with a mission to provide high-quality, comprehensive early childhood education programs and support services for children and their families, regardless of financial circumstances. Our target population is low-income working families in the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County, Virginia. Each year, Main Street impacts the lives of 125 children (ages 2-5) in a full-day preschool program, 25 children (ages 5-10) in out-of-school-time programs for elementary school students, and 150 parents through engagement activities and adult education opportunities. Since our founding, we have (a) prepared nearly 4,000 children with school readiness skills necessary for success in school and beyond, and (b) provided essential work support for low-income working parents. Led by Carol Lieske, Executive Director, Main Street serves some of the most vulnerable in our community. 80% of children come from low income families (50% of those are single parent homes), with 75% speaking a language other than English at home and representing over 30 countries. Providing healthy meals and snacks, access to mental health and special needs services while at Main Street, and connecting families with additional resources are just some of the ways Main Street makes a difference in the lives of the families in our community.
