MBFC is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization licensed by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a certified development company that focuses on SBA 504 financing and commercial lending. The organization began in 1983 as Opportunities Minnesota Inc. (OMNI), a division of the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development, became a quasi-public agency in 1993, and was privatized and renamed Minnesota Business Finance Corporation in 1996.
