The Media Research Center is a nonprofit organization focused on monitoring news reporting and advocating for balance in U.S. media coverage. It maintains that liberal bias exists in national outlets and that addressing this bias is important for informing public understanding of important issues. Founded in 1987 by a group of conservatives, the organization set out to document bias through scientific research and to counter its perceived influence on American politics; it is based in Herndon, Northern Virginia. In 2025, the organization launched CNSNews.com, a platform associated with its activities. The Media Research Center operates within the nonprofit watchdog space, pursuing research and related initiatives around media coverage.
