Midlands Choice operates as a regional preferred provider organization in the health care sector, maintaining a network of more than 20,000 physicians and other healthcare professionals, 300 hospitals, and 1,300 additional facilities. By contracting with Midlands Choice, participating providers agree to deliver services at reduced fees, helping lower out-of-pocket costs for patients insured through one of its 150 payer partners when they use in-network providers. Its service area covers all of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota, along with portions of Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Midlands Choice has operated under its current name since 2001, with roots dating to the mid-1980s. URAC accredits the network for Core and Health Provider Credentialing Standards, and seven of the largest healthcare systems in Nebraska and Iowa are shareholders.
