The newspaper began publication in 1829 as the Planter's Gazette. It became the Montgomery Advertiser in 1833.  Through the years, the print industry has witnessed change, however the Montgomery Advertiser is the largest daily newspaper in Alabama, and has garnered three Pulitzer Prizes to date.
