The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) is a non-profit professional association uniting more than 28,000 admissions and counseling professionals worldwide to guide students as they consider postsecondary education options. Founded in 1937 and based in Arlington, Virginia, it emphasizes ethical standards and social responsibility in the transition to higher education, as outlined in its Statement of Principles of Good Practice. The organization is member-directed and governed by an elected Board of Directors with an Assembly of Delegates elected from its state and regional affiliates. Its work is supported by 11 standing committees, ad hoc groups, and an Affiliate Presidents Council that contribute expertise to programs and governance. NACAC provides award-winning publications, professional development programs, and practical research designed to strengthen the counseling and admissions work that serves students. In 2025, the association released its College Openings Update, reflecting ongoing efforts to provide timely guidance to its members and the college admissions community.
