Volunteer members receive entry-level training to meet Firefighter I requirements defined by the National Fire Protection Association and to meet Emergency Medical Technician - Basic requirements defined by the New York State Department of Health. The basic training, together with the diverse backgrounds of its members, supports a versatile unit. Every member has the opportunity to take advanced classes to enhance firefighting or emergency medical skills. The department handles a broad range of emergencies, with a little more than half of responses involving medical assistance and transportation to area hospitals. It operates within the public-safety framework on Long Island, contributing emergency response and mutual aid across communities.
