The Newark Symphony Orchestra is a nonprofit, volunteer-based community orchestra based in Newark, Delaware, with a history dating to 1966 as Delaware's oldest continuously operating community orchestra. It performs a full classical repertoire with musicians and professional soloists from the Brandywine Valley, presenting four symphony concerts and three chamber concerts each year, in addition to a free Family Concert. Concerts are held at Gore Hall, located within The Independence School in Newark, Delaware. The organization emphasizes music education through initiatives such as the annual Free Family Concert with an Instrument Petting Zoo, and free admission for youth eighth grade and younger when accompanied by an adult; it also hosts a Youth Concerto Competition and performs in local schools and community events. The Instruments in the Attic program refurbishes and donates instruments to young musicians, supporting accessibility to music education. As a regional arts contributor, NSO collaborates with area youth groups, adult choruses, dance and theater organizations to shape each season for the Newark area.
