Niobec operates the Niobec Mine, an underground niobium operation located in Saint-Honore-de-Chicoutimi, Quebec, about 13 km north of Saguenay City. The site has produced niobium since 1976 and is one of only a few global producers. It was acquired by Magris Resources in January 2015, and the mine accounts for roughly 8-10% of global niobium use. Niobec's product is ferroniobium, an intermediate used to strengthen steel and reduce weight, with customers including large mills and foundries serving the automotive, aerospace, petrochemical, pipeline, bridge, and architectural sectors. The company holds ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2008 certifications and bases its operations on environmental protection and quality assurance. In May 2025, Niobec GmbH announced a partnership with the Union County District School Board, describing the collaboration as conducted in good faith and in compliance with the applicable collective agreement and Quebec laws.
