NYSUT is a nonprofit federation in New York that unites more than 1,200 local unions representing people who work in or are retired from the state’s schools, colleges, and healthcare facilities. Its membership spans a broad range of roles, including classroom teachers, college faculty and professional staff, and school support workers such as bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, cafeteria workers, teacher assistants, and nurses. As a labor organization, it is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association, and is part of the broader AFL-CIO and Education International movements. The federation seeks to improve working conditions and, more broadly, the quality of education and healthcare available to New Yorkers. NYSUT operates within the nonprofit sector as a statewide federation representing a diverse workforce across education and health settings.
