Council's Vision for our district is: 'Strong Community - Strong Future'.

Opotiki District is the perfect place for a community that appreciates outdoor activities and a natural environment. With miles of open sea, 160 kms of coastline, 13 rivers and 11,200 hectares of bush and scrubland the district comprises 25% of the Bay of Plenty region and 50% of the Bay of Plenty coastline.

Around 9,000 people live here and each year 30,000+ visitors experience this great environment. The economy is driven primarily by agriculture, planted forests and horticulture.

Council works to achieve the outcomes set by our community to ensure both present and future generations have:
•	Development and protection of the natural environment
•	Services and facilities that meet the communities needs
•	Fair and efficient leadership
•	A strong and distinctive community spirit
•	Purposeful work and learning opportunities
•	Development that supports the community
•	History and culture is treasured

Council is made up of two parts that work together for the benefit of the District. First is ‘the Council’ made up of one Mayor and 6 Councillors. They make decisions, on behalf of the ratepayers, to meet the needs of the District. Second is the organisation consisting of staff who provide the services and the facilities/projects which deliver on the Council’s decisions.
