Paperlike operates from Hamburg, Germany, as part of the manufacturing sector, developing accessories designed to upgrade the iPad writing and drawing experience. Its main product is an iPad screen protector crafted for artists and notetakers, intended to provide a more natural feel and better control when using the Apple Pencil by reducing resistance and slipperiness on the glass surface. The concept began with founder Jan after a frustrating trial with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, which led to a solution that could be produced for others, culminating in a Kickstarter campaign in 2017 that drew more than 2,000 backers. The company maintains a small, dedicated team. In 2021, Inky Thinking acquired Paperlike GmbH, marking a change in ownership. In 2025, Paperlike launched Paperlike 3, introducing the Butterfly Application System that removes the need for separate alignment tools and supports a contamination-free installation process.
