Port of Tyne is a major deep-sea port based in South Shields, in the North East of England, offering a range of cargo and passenger services. It provides tailored solutions for the green energy sector, supports the automotive transition, handles specialized bulk and containerised goods, and operates the International Passenger Terminal to accommodate growing passenger numbers. As one of the UK's largest trust ports, it is self-financing and operates on a commercial basis, reinvesting profits into facilities along the River Tyne for regional benefit. The port contributes about £658 million to the North East economy and supports around 10,400 jobs directly and indirectly. In June 2026, Julia Prescot was appointed chair, succeeding Lucy Armstrong who had led the port for almost a decade.
