Poweshiek Iowa Development (Pow I-80) is a countywide economic development organization established in 2004 to coordinate and support business development across Poweshiek County, including the cities of Brooklyn, Grinnell, and Montezuma. Based in Grinnell, Iowa, it acts as a primary contact for prospective businesses, connecting them with local resources and facilitating collaboration among governmental, educational, and regulatory entities to strengthen industrial and commercial pockets in the region. The organization also engages with state and federal levels to develop contacts and assist with applications for available funds, aiming to foster a supportive climate for existing and new businesses. In addition to guiding development efforts, Pow I-80 partners with regional agencies and undertakes studies to understand local labor markets, such as a Labor shed analysis conducted with Iowa Workforce Development and the Iowa Economic Development Authority. A recent development includes the appointment of Dan Nieland as Executive Director in 2024, signaling ongoing leadership coordination for the county’s economic initiatives.
