The circadian system synchronizes behavioral and physiological processes, including sleep, metabolism, feeding, blood pressure and hormone secretion with the environmental cycles of light, activity and nutrient status. Disruption of normal circadian rhythms is associated with many diseases, including central nervous system, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, immune system dysfunction and cancer.
