Self-Help Federal Credit Union is a community development financial institution in the financial services sector, based in Oakland, California. It was founded in 2008 as part of the Self-Help family and focuses on affordable, responsible financial services for a broad audience, with a particular emphasis on low-wealth and underserved communities. The organization's mission is to create and protect ownership and economic opportunity for all, especially people of color, women, rural residents, and low-wealth families and communities. It supports a range of community-oriented projects, including homebuyers, nonprofits, childcare centers, community health facilities, public charter schools, and real estate ventures. Collectively, Self-Help and its affiliates have supported more than 120,000 families, individuals, and businesses, and currently provide basic financial services to more than 117,000 people. In late 2025, Cencap Federal Credit Union merged with Self-Help Federal Credit Union, expanding its footprint and community impact.
