The SKA Observatory is a global space research and technology effort focused on radio astronomy and large-scale data handling, based in Withington, England. It operates as a collaboration among member states, with its headquarters at Jodrell Bank Observatory in the United Kingdom and two telescope arrays planned for Australia and South Africa. The project aims to advance understanding of galaxy formation and evolution, fundamental physics in extreme environments, and the origins of life, while pursuing technological innovation and addressing societal challenges. Its primary stakeholders are the international scientific community and policymakers who will use the facility's capabilities to drive discovery and inform decision-making. In 2026, the SKA Observatory appointed Professor Jessica Dempsey as director-general. The same year it established a partnership with the Wajarri Group to protect cultural heritage on site and deliver long-term benefits for the Wajarri community.
