Skills for Change is a mid-sized nonprofit based in Toronto, Ontario, that serves immigrants and refugees through a broad range of social services. Since its founding in 1982 with an office training program that helped women from Southeast Asia gain employment, the organization has expanded to include language instruction, mentoring, bridging programs, entrepreneurship training, employment preparation, and settlement supports. The organization has earned several awards for its work, including recognitions from Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Conference Board of Canada, and the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration Newcomer Champion Award. Its programs are aimed at newcomers to Canada, offering information and referral, language assessment and instruction, integrated language and skills training, and pathways to employment as well as youth, women, and seniors programming. In 2023 it launched the Black Youth in STEM project to support underserved Black youth in Toronto pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
