The Society of Gynecologic Oncology is a mid-sized nonprofit professional association based in Chicago, Midwest, that serves health care professionals focused on gynecologic cancers. As a 501(c)(6) organization, it works to advance women’s cancer care by supporting research, education, higher standards of practice, patient and member advocacy, and collaboration with other organizations domestically and internationally. Its membership numbers more than 2,700 individuals representing the gynecologic oncology team, including gynecologic oncologists along with nurses, physician assistants, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, and researchers. Members provide multidisciplinary cancer treatment and work across a range of settings, from academic medical centers to hospitals, regional cancer centers, and private practices. The organization maintains a Career Center to connect practitioners with opportunities in gynecologic oncology. In early 2026, Matthew A. Powell, MD, was appointed president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, and the 2026 Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
