Tom Stern is PRESIDENT of Stern Executive Search. Tom has been active in the recruiting industry since 1989 and founded Stern Executive Search in 1993.

Tom’s career has spanned the realms of both business and the arts. After earning a BA in psychology at Sarah Lawrence College, Tom spent the next ten years in the entertainment industry, developing comedy material and managing talent.

As President of Film and Television for Spotlight Enterprises, which represented such comedic luminaries as Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Maher, and Dennis Miller. Tom honed his skill at building relationships and his talent for assessing potential and other intangible qualities in people. He combined these abilities with his astute intuition and solid business acumen to build Stern Executive Search.

Tom has conducted hundreds of successful searches for a wide array of clients including American Express, Bain, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte Consulting, Ernst&Young, Sutherland Global Services, Sony Studios and Universal to name a few.

His placements have ranged from business strategy, operations improvement, organizational change, manufacturing engineering, and IT strategy in industry verticals from financial services, consumer products, entertainment & media, and healthcare.

Tom’s father was one of the “founders of cable television and the association’s national chairman.” His great grandfather, a prominent philanthropist, was the CEO and chairman of Sears, Roebuck and Co. at the turn of the twentieth century. As an ADHD child with dyslexia, Tom was unable to live up to those great expectations, and as a result, suffered from extreme anxiety.

He developed a methodology that increased his confidence and enabled him to achieve success in the entertainment industry, and founded an executive search firm that has sustained excellence for more than a quarter century.
