TAMIU is a higher education institution located in Laredo, Texas, positioned at the gateway to Mexico and serving as a cultural and intellectual hub for a bilingual and bicultural community. As a member of The Texas A&M University System, it aims to prepare students for leadership in a culturally diverse global society. The university enrolls more than 8,500 students and offers a range of baccalaureate and master's programs, along with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in International Business and Criminal Justice. 

In addition to its traditional offerings, TAMIU has expanded its scope with new undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering and Computer Science, as well as a Bachelor’s in Clinical Laboratory Science and a Doctoral program in Physical Therapy. In 2025, the university began offering online Master of Science in Criminal Justice programs in Homeland Security, Cybersecurity, and Criminal Justice Administration. The campus is based in Laredo and, as part of the Texas A&M University System, emphasizes international studies and global understanding across disciplines.
