The Junior League of Houston, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. “Building A Better Community” History • Founded in 1925 by 12 visionary women, The Junior League of Houston, Inc. will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2015. • The founding volunteers committed to a well-baby clinic that is today the Junior League Health Care Clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital. Community Outreach • The League will donate more than $2 million in trained volunteer time and direct financial support to the Greater Houston Area in the year 2014 – 2015. • Through financial contributions and volunteers (each committing approximately 72 hours per year), the League in 2014 – 2015 will support 36 community projects addressing a variety of critical needs in the Greater Houston Area, including basic needs, healthcare, abuse and neglect of children, abuse of women, literacy, cultural enrichment, the elderly, teen pregnancy and mentoring young women. The League provides additional financial support to the community through grants and participates in community collaborations with a variety of organizations.
