The Mitten State is a brand inspired by Michigan's communities, natural beauty, and culture. Founded in 2006, we've been incorporating vintage inspired design and graphic art from the 1970s and 1980s into our impossibly soft t-shirts. But we're more than just a clothing line or a brand. The Mitten State (TMS) is a project in community reflection; a running commentary on the subtleties, images, and ideas that make up the collective of our state. Where else in the country can you use your hand to show someone else where you're from? Or refer to Yoopers, pop, and Euchre without question? From our design studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan, we strive to release products that represent the Michigan story: where we've been, where we are, and where we're headed. Our designs always have a meaning behind them, whether they tie directly to a historical event, or a symbol, or a popular Michigan saying. Driven by a passion to create the best Michigan apparel around, we've built TMS on the premise that each product should reflect the qualities that make our state and its citizens great. To that end, we hope to represent as much of The Mitten as possible, and help a little along the way: every purchase sees a portion donated to local charities.
