Insights

Corporate Partnerships SEED already secures corporate and philanthropic support, notably via the Fidelity Foundation for the LEAD Programme. There is potential to expand CSR partnerships with banks, tech firms, and other employers to fund college prep, boarding operations, and postsecondary transition services, complemented by impact reporting built on Salesforce data.

Scale and Licensing With The SEED School of DC, The SEED School of Maryland, and The SEED School of Miami, plus announced international expansion to Bulgaria, the model demonstrates scalability. This creates sales opportunities for program licensing, implementation support, and advisory services to municipalities, universities, and international partners seeking an urban-education turnkey solution.

Impact Analytics SEED's use of Salesforce and data visualization positions it well for data-driven fundraising and program evaluation. Opportunities exist to partner on CRM optimization, donor analytics, and alumni outcomes dashboards, as well as advisory services for other nonprofits looking to scale similar programs.

Postsecondary Outcomes Exceptional college enrollment outcomes provide a strong ROI narrative for sponsors. Potential sales avenues include scholarships, college-transition programming, and employer-aligned internship pipelines funded by foundations or CSR programs, with opportunities to partner with higher education institutions and scholarship providers.

Cross Sector Engagement Broad cross-sector collaborations—with media, NGOs, and community organizations—signal readiness for joint campaigns and employee-engagement initiatives. Opportunities include cause-marketing partnerships, sponsored events, volunteer programs, and multi-stakeholder campaigns that align with SEED's mission and deliver measurable social impact.

The SEED Foundation is a national nonprofit that partners with urban communities to provide innovative educational opportunities that prepare underserved students for success in college and beyond. We establish college-prep, public boarding schools and offer SEED graduates postsecondary support through the SEED College Transition & Success Program.

In 1998, the Foundation opened The SEED School of Washington, D.C. – the nation’s first urban public boarding school. It serves 340 students in grades 6 - 12. To date, 93 percent of all SEED graduates have enrolled in college.

Building on that success, The SEED School of Maryland opened in Baltimore in 2008. Approximately 400 students live and learn on the 52-acre SEED Maryland campus; the school graduated its first class of seniors in 2015, and 100% of graduates were accepted to four-year colleges.

In August 2014, The SEED School of Miami opened its doors to its first class of 60 sixth-graders, and will add a grade each year until it has 400 students enrolled in grades six through twelve.

SEED has also been recognized in the national media for our model and our results. Our success has been celebrated by 60 Minutes, The Oprah Winfrey Show, the documentary film Waiting for "Superman," the Today Show, the New York Times, Time Magazine, Fox News, and CNN, among others.
