Tishman International Companies traces its roots to 1977, when former executives from NYSE-traded Tishman Realty & Construction formed the privately held Tishman West. Over the next fifteen years, Tishman West built and managed high-rise office buildings on the West Coast and grew into a large property management firm in the region. In 1992, the West Coast operation sold its US leasing and management functions to a unit of American Express and became Tishman International Companies.
