The Town of Superior, Colorado is a municipal government located between Boulder and Denver along the U.S. 36 corridor. It covers about four square miles and provides access to parks, green space, and open space with 35 miles of trails and 630 acres of parkland. The community has roots in coal mining from the late 19th century; it was founded in 1896 and incorporated on June 4, 1904, a naming homage to the high quality of local coal. The town is home to 13,087 residents, and Rock Creek Ranch is its largest residential development. As a local government, Superior handles public works and community services, including infrastructure investments such as the wastewater plant and pedestrian safety improvements. In March 2024, Superior together with Boulder County filed a lawsuit against Jefferson County over operations at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport.
