1925 gründete Paul Ullrich die Wein- und Spirituosenhandlung an der Falknerstrasse 29 in Basel; diese wurde später mit einem zweiten Laden an der Freien Strasse 59 vergrössert. Durch seine persönlichen Beziehungen ins Burgund etablierte sich Paul Ullrich schnell als Lieferant und Kenner von Weinen aus dieser berühmten Weinregion und erwarb sich damit auf dem Platz Basel einen guten Namen. Am 16.10.1944 wurde die Firma in eine AG umgewandelt. Schon früh mussten die beiden Söhne Peter und Hansruedi im elterlichen Geschäft mitanpacken. 40 Jahre lang führten sie die Firma erfolgreich weiter. 1991 starb der Gründer und Grossvater des heutigen Inhabers Urs Ullrich, seine Söhne Peter und Hansruedi erbten das Familienunternehmen, wobei Peter die Anteile seines Bruders kaufte und das Unternehmen in der 2. Generation weiterführte. Peter war ein sehr guter Weinkenner und seine Fachkompetenz festigte den Ruf der Firma als führende Wein- und Spirituosenhandlung im Raum Basel.
