United Egg Producers is a farmer cooperative based in Johns Creek, Georgia, that represents egg producers in legislative, regulatory, and advocacy efforts affecting egg production. It operates the UEP Certified program, established in 2002 to set hen-well-being standards backed by decades of research, with farms volunteering for independent audits. Today, more than 85 percent of eggs produced in the United States come from farms that participate in UEP Certified. UEP also maintains eggsafety.org, a consumer-focused resource that provides egg safety information and explains production practices on farms subject to the FDA Egg Safety Rule. Its member base consists of egg producers who benefit from a unified voice in national policy discussions. Recent developments include the establishment of a Washington, D.C. office led by a new vice president of government affairs.
