YUPO CORPORATION is a joint venture established in May 1969 through 50/50 investment by Oji Paper Co., Ltd. (present Oji Holdings Corporation) and Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (present Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation), with the aim of commercializing petrochemical-based synthetic papers. The company completed its first production line in 1971, its second in 1986, and its third in 1990 at its Kashima Factory in Kamisu, Ibaraki Prefecture, and has built a structure for the stable supply of product in Japan and overseas. In September 1998, the company established an American manufacturing and sales subsidiary in Chesapeake, Virginia. YUPO CORPORATION is advancing the development of a stable supply system on a global level. In October 2000, the company established a sales subsidiary in Germany, and began sales on its own under the YUPO brand in Europe, Middle East and Africa. It has additional sales bases in China, India, and Thailand, and is currently a global top manufacturer with a high share in the synthetic paper field.
