Altamanu Inc. is a certified MBE/WBE/DBE Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Planning firm based in Chicago, Illinois. We are constantly evolving to meet the changing issues of contemporary society and we seek to integrate all facets of design to create sustainable urban environments, each with its own character and identity. We believe that design is a multidisciplinary process that involves all strata of our environment; including landscape architecture and its interface with ecology and concern for the community. Josephine Bellalta and John Mac Manus, the principals of Altamanu Inc., share over 40 years of experience designing and building public spaces. Their varied backgrounds include the planning and design of schools, parks, institution campuses, streetscapes, roadways and public spaces in the Chicago area and nationally. Since founding Altamanu Inc in 2000, Josephine and John have built a firm that continues to believe in an inclusive team approach to all projects. Altamanu has grown and now has eight landscape architects and urban designers. We have worked on projects for the Dept. of the Environment, ISTHA, the Chicago Park District and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago on multiple open space projects including the 1-355, North Lake Shore Drive feasibility study, Lincoln Park Framework Plan, Lake Shore Protection, the Van Vlissingen Prairie and the Calumet Open Space Reserve Plan and Treatment Wetlands. We have received national, regional and local awards for our work. Josephine has received two ASLA honor awards and John was awarded the Greenwald Chair for Urban Design in recognition of his work; he was also designated “Chicagoan of the year” by the Chicago Tribune for his work on large-scale park and infrastructure projects. We believe the best solutions come from collaboration with our staff, clients, other disciplines and especially with the local community.
