Avon and Somerset Police is a regional law-enforcement agency based in Portishead, England, serving a broad area that includes South Gloucestershire, Somerset and BaNES, with major cities such as Bristol, Bath and Wells. Its mission is to serve, protect and respect communities, with a vision of delivering outstanding policing for everyone. The force is among England and Wales’ larger police organisations, employing more than 6,000 people and serving a population of over 1.65 million; roughly half of its workforce comprises police officers, PCSOs and special constables. In 2025 the force introduced a geographical model that divides its area into three regions—Bristol, North East and Somerset—each led by a Chief Superintendent. The organisation holds external recognitions for equality and inclusion, including ENEI award-winner status, Stonewall accreditation and Disability Confident employer status with the National Equality Standard, and it shares a joint headquarters with Avon Fire and Rescue Service in Portishead.
