Chicago Housing Authority is a Chicago-based government agency within the Government Administration sector that oversees public housing and rental assistance programs. It is the city’s largest rental housing owner and administers Public Housing, the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, and the Project-Based Voucher (PBV) program. Through these programs, CHA serves more than 135,000 people in about 65,000 households across the city, with the goal of expanding affordable housing opportunities for low-income families and supporting strong, vibrant communities. Based in Chicago, CHA collaborates with public and nonprofit partners to advance housing development and related community initiatives. In April 2026, the agency joined with city and state partners to break ground on Southbridge Phase 1C, a project on the former Harold Ickes Homes site at the crossroads of Bronzeville, Chinatown, and the South Loop.
