MISSION: To create, produce and present music theatre works and events through our unique collaborative method that reflects the many facets of our world; to bridge cultures by bringing artists from around the world together to create these works and events. PHILOSOPHY AND METHOD: We are companions to the creative process of artists within our community and the world. Our philosophy is to provide a haven where artists from many disciplines, countries, walks of life and stages in career can unleash their creativity. Through our collaborative, improvisational process artists let down barriers and find a common ground of understanding. Companion Star's productions are developed in a workshop-oriented system intended to dissolve conventional performance boundaries and hierarchies. This approach is designed to produce fully integrated works in which every facet of the production, from initiation to completion, is shaped by the ideas that arise from the collective work of all members of the collaborative thus enabling each project to evolve and emerge organically. This process and our productions expand the established boundaries of music-theatre and opera. Integral to this process are work-in progress performances at different stages of the project’s evolution. These performances present work completed to date and a laboratory session in which the audience engages in an improvisation and discussion with the project’s artists. Not only is material for the project generated but the audience experiences our creative process.
