The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) is a trade association in the hospitals and health care industry, founded in 1966 and headquartered at 750 9th Street Northwest, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20001, United States. It serves as the national representative for more than 1,000 tax-paying community hospitals and health systems across 46 states, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. FAH members include teaching, acute, inpatient rehabilitation, behavioral health, and long-term care hospitals, providing a broad range of inpatient, ambulatory, post-acute, emergency, children’s, and cancer services. The organization provides policy insight and information to federal legislators, regulators, and other stakeholders, advocating for a market-based health care system. Leadership changes noted in 2025–2026 include Charlene MacDonald being named President and Chief Executive Officer effective January 1, 2026, following the retirement of Chip Kahn in June 2025.
