Gulf Drilling International Limited (GDI) is an oil and gas drilling company based in Doha, ad Dawḩah, Qatar. It was founded in 2004 as a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Japan Drilling Company, becoming the first Qatari operator to offer offshore and onshore drilling services. In 2014, Gulf International Services acquired the remaining shares of JDC, giving GIS a 100 percent stake in GDI. GDI operates a diversified fleet that supports both traditional and emerging energy markets, including offshore jack-up rigs, onshore rigs, and lift boats. Recent acquisitions, including three jack-up rigs from Seadrill Holdings within the Gulf Drill Joint Venture, have positioned GDI as the largest jack-up operator in Qatar. The company has highlighted a strong safety record, noting multi-year periods with no recordable incidents or lost time injuries, and in December 2023 signed a memorandum of understanding with Elegancia Healthcare, a subsidiary of Estithmar Holding, to explore collaboration on medical services and health initiatives.
