Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads (Habitat SHR) is a non-profit housing ministry and an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). Habitat SHR engages the local community in building opportunities for qualified families to achieve independence and stability through purchasing an affordable home. Our mission is to build affordable homes that strengthen families and communities in South Hampton Roads. 

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates homes with partner families, selling them through a unique, no-interest mortgage program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat SHR home and attend financial literacy classes to ensure that they will be successful homebuyers and owners.
