Growth expansion HBM Engineering Group recently expanded with a second office in downtown Chicago, signaling growing demand and potential cross-region projects. This presents opportunities to offer more integrated civil, structural, and transportation services to municipal agencies and private developers in Illinois and neighboring markets.

Public sector focus A substantial portion of HBM's client base comprises state and local government agencies and utilities, creating a steady pipeline for NBIS bridge inspections, design-build transportation facilities, and construction management services for public infrastructure upgrades.

Carbon Fiber niche HBM offers design and construction using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), a specialized capability that can differentiate proposals for bridge and building rehabilitation, allowing premium-value services for asset-heavy clients seeking durable, lightweight solutions.

DBE/WBE positioning As a DBE/WBE-certified firm with a long-standing presence since 2003, HBM can help public sector clients meet diversity procurement goals, potentially unlocking set-aside opportunities and favorable contract considerations.

Mid-market scale With revenue in the 10–25 million range and a lean team, HBM represents a nimble partner for private developers, architecture firms, and utilities seeking focused, responsive civil and structural engineering support without the overhead of larger firms.
