High Concept Labs is a Chicago-based organization in the performing arts that provides accessible residency programs for artists across disciplines. The residencies are designed to support experimentation, discovery, exchange, and risk, while promoting visibility for the creative process and advocating for investment across all stages of new-work development. Since its launch in 2009, HCL has supported over 200 artists and artist collectives to develop new work, contributing to an artist-driven ecosystem that emphasizes collaboration. In 2022, HCL partnered with Monira Foundation for a joint residency at Mana Contemporary; Monira Foundation provides advocacy and fundraising support, documentation funds, accessibility technology and services, and secures studio space, with plans to support two additional HCL Artists in Residence starting in 2023. As of November 2023, Aquil Charlton joined HCL as Artistic Director; the organization maintains a staff of 11-50 and is based at 2233 South Throop Street, Chicago, Illinois. In May 2024, HCL announced a partnership with Unfolding Disability Futures to launch Art/Access Labs, a series of convenings for disabled artists, and the organization maintains a website at highconceptlabs.org.
