Hockey Ireland is the national governing body for field hockey in Ireland, responsible for governance and the overall development of the sport across 32 counties. It is based in Dublin and was formed in 2000 through the merger of two unions that historically governed men's and women's hockey, each with roots dating to the late 19th century. The organization operates through eight affiliated branches that administer the sport regionally and locally; at present, branches manage men's and women's hockey separately, with plans to merge at branch level as well. The network includes about 168 clubs and 280 schools, with the Irish Hockey Umpires Association and the Irish Universities Hockey Association also affiliated. It serves clubs, schools, umpires, and university hockey communities by providing governance, structure, and development pathways to grow participation and competitive sport. In 2025, Hockey Ireland announced a partnership with TG4 to promote and showcase hockey content across the year.
