Jarrett Walker + Associates was founded in 2011 by Jarrett Walker, the author of Human Transit, who has been a consulting expert in public transit planning and policy since 1993. Today, JWA is a leader in transit network planning, policy development, stakeholder involvement, and expert advice. The firm is based in Portland, Oregon with an office in Arlington, Virginia, but we work worldwide, with experience in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia as well as across the US and Canada. 

JWA’s mission is to foster clear conversations about transit, leading to confident decisions. JWA specializes in helping communities understand transit choices and their consequences. A full JWA-led planning process integrates technical transit planning with many types of engagement and builds ideas in conversation rather than in the solitary work of experts. In the 2010s, a time of declining ridership in the US, JWA has been involved in more ridership-increasing network redesigns than any other firm. These include city redesigns in Houston, San Jose and Silicon Valley, Columbus, Sacramento, Richmond (Virginia) and Anchorage.
