Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) is a public utility based in Memphis, Tennessee, delivering electricity, natural gas, and water to Memphis and Shelby County. It is the largest three-service public power utility in the United States, serving more than 444,000 customers. Founded in 1939, MLGW is governed by a president and a five-member board appointed by the mayor and approved by the Memphis City Council. Electricity is supplied by the Tennessee Valley Authority, natural gas is purchased from multiple suppliers and distributed by three pipeline companies, and Memphis' water comes from one of the world's largest artesian systems. The utility maintains an Economic Development team to support local businesses and launched a customer service program in 2025 to shorten caller wait times.
