Protean Press offers authors and publishing professionals a custom, experimental approach to trade publishing. We combine the high standards and best practices of traditional book publishing with cutting-edge online solutions. Adopting a risk- and profit-sharing approach, we put the lion’s share of profits where they rightfully belong—with the author and the creative team behind each publication. In so doing, we start to redefine the traditional roles of author and publisher.

Not every title is appropriate for Protean Press. Not a vanity press, where an author pays to self-publish and all authors are welcome, we select to publish only those books we believe will sell in the marketplace, because, like the author, we earn profit only with sales of the book, not before. We access the book market through internet sites, trade shows, a custom tailored marketing campaign, and distribution through National Book Network (NBN) into online and brick and mortar bookstores around the world.
