Based in Peoria, Arizona, bioLight Group operates as a nonprofit research organization through its program Science of Light (SOL). Its leadership is led by Ken Ceder, a former co-director of Hippocrates Health Institute, who founded OTT Light Systems in 1988 after collaborating with Dr. John Ott, the pioneer of full-spectrum light technology. In 2012, after selling the Ott trademark, Ceder repurposed bioLight Group as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on SOL. SOL has advanced Dr. Ott's concept from full-spectrum fluorescence to LED-based approaches, describing a method called photo-modulation that uses specific wavelengths to stimulate cellular metabolic activity. Its mission is to raise awareness of mal-illumination, a contemporary health concern linked to obesity, depression, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and other conditions, and to provide technology intended to reduce the risks associated with poor lighting.
