Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and is recognized as a global leader in perishable food redistribution. It works with thousands of food businesses across the supply chain to redirect unsold edible surplus to non-profit organizations that feed communities in every province and territory. By diverting edible surplus away from landfills, the organization reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports improved nutrition access for Canadians experiencing food insecurity. It is based in Etobicoke, Ontario. In addition to food rescue, Second Harvest conducts research on food loss and waste, provides education and training for the charitable food sector, and has developed the Second Harvest Food Rescue App to facilitate direct donations from food businesses to local non-profits across Canada. In 2025, it rescued 95.8 million pounds of healthy perishable food and redirected it to more than 10,800 programs, preventing about 309 million pounds of greenhouse gases. Its vision is No Waste. No Hunger, and its mission is to keep food where it belongs: on plates and out of landfills.
