The New Group is a New York-based performing arts company that develops and produces contemporary theatre through an ensemble-driven approach. Led by founding Artistic Director Scott Elliott and Executive Director Adam Bernstein, it focuses on work that emphasizes emotional immediacy and relevance to current culture. Founded in 1995, the nonprofit operates in New York City and centers collaboration among artists. The organization runs the New Group/New Works program to nurture original plays and musicals from both emerging and established writers, along with education programs for high school, college, and adult participants. It has earned numerous awards and nominations, including a Tony Award for Avenue Q, and in 2026 announced a partnership with the League of Live Stream Theater to stream The Adding Machine directed by Scott Elliott.
