The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) is a nonprofit professional membership organization for human genetics specialists worldwide, founded in 1948 and based in Bethesda, Maryland. It serves a diverse membership of researchers, clinicians, laboratory professionals, genetic counselors, nurses, and others who work in universities, hospitals, institutes, and medical or research laboratories, with a mission to advance human genetics in science, health, and society through excellence in research, education, and advocacy. 

ASHG fosters collaboration by convening researchers at its annual meetings and disseminating findings through The American Journal of Human Genetics. It also works to strengthen genetics education, promote genetic services, and advocate for responsible social and scientific policies affecting the field. In 2026, ASHG announced the appointment of Charles Lee as Editor-in-Chief of its fully open-access journal Human Genetics and Genomics Advances (HGG Advances), effective January 2027.
