The Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR) is an independent, nonprofit public policy research organization. We exist to help the people of greater New Orleans make sense of how local government works and how it could work better.

BGR focuses on issues that shape daily life and the long-term health of our communities. We study how public dollars are raised and spent; track government performance across Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Tammany parishes; and flag risks before they become full-blown crises.

We are a member-supported organization. Our independence allows us to follow the facts wherever they lead and to speak openly about what we find.
