Clean Grid Alliance is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota, dedicated to advancing renewable energy across the Midwest. Its work encompasses wind, solar, storage, and other emerging technologies, focusing on policy and grid-related challenges that affect how renewables access the transmission system and markets. The organization brings together a diverse membership that includes developers, manufacturers, environmental and public-interest groups, farmer organizations, and other energy-related businesses. It concentrates on transmission planning, developing equitable grid rules, and laying the public policy foundations needed for a robust renewable energy future in nine Midwestern states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. In addition to policy work, Clean Grid Alliance emphasizes education and outreach to state regulators, legislatures, and the public, and it operates as the Midwest affiliate of the American Clean Power Association. In 2021, it partnered with the Great Plains Institute to survey member developers and utilities involved in its hybrid stakeholder discussions.
